How to educate children in the post pandemic era

1. My child asked me when the epidemic will end. He asked this because he was thinking about his summer hiking trip.

Since kindergarten, he has been arranged to travel during summer vacation. This year, of course, it’s impossible.

We all assume that this sudden global pandemic will gradually disappear under the joint efforts of strong government regulation and medical measures.

We are all waiting for the world to return to what it was before 2020. No masks, no isolation, fly wherever you want.

But it is very likely that the so-called ‘healthy world after the pandemic’ cannot wait any longer. The virus may exist for a long time, and the door may be closed for a long time.

The whole world may be in a state of low-power operation for a long time. Long term separation from the international community and constant disputes.

It’s difficult to move around, with inspections everywhere and occasional isolation and readiness. Both daily life and socio-economic conditions are semi closed and spinning at a low speed.

We may need to live like this for a year, two years, or even a long time. 2. COVID-19 has expanded to all continents of the world, with more than 10 million people infected.

At the same time, the virus has accelerated military tensions, international trade disputes, nationalist sentiment, as well as internal conflicts and riots among countries.

The world is fragmented, turbulent, and declining in an unprecedented way and speed. This epidemic has changed every one of us.

It will also change our approach to educating children. For children, there are at least three visible impacts.

1. The path of studying abroad is gradually fading away. In my city, personal passports and visas are basically not processed anymore due to personal reasons.

Unless there are special circumstances. It can be imagined how difficult it will be for children to study abroad in the future.

Given the current situation, some of the children who returned this year have some majors and need to apply for study visas again, which is full of great uncertainty.

Their studies are likely to come to an end here. Five or ten years from now, the relationship between China and the world will be even more unpredictable.

Allowing children to study abroad is a plan for many middle-class families, but nowadays, this plan needs to adapt to changing circumstances.

2. Seeing good things is becoming increasingly difficult. Next, our connection with the world will decrease.

This directly leads to the fact that this group of children born in the 2010s have a slightly narrower world compared to those born in the 2000s, 90s, and even 80s.

The tone of reform and opening up is to embrace the world. The era in which the 80s and 90s generations grew up, as well as the era in which foreign ideas, cultures, and products quickly entered China, all vaguely constructed a generation’s worldview.

And now these children will gradually lose this international connection and communication bit by bit, at an imperceptible speed and in an imperceptible way.

3. Bad emotions and malice are everywhere. The outbreak of COVID-19 has brought huge economic, life and property losses to the world.

However, so far, there are still unknown and uncertain fundamental issues regarding the origin, mechanism, survival environment, and duration of the virus outbreak.

On such a big matter, we still can’t see sincere international cooperation, what we see is various conspiracy theories and mutual bickering.

The pandemic, combined with trade disputes, racism, and debt crises, will lead children to grow up in an environment of negative emotions and malice towards other countries, society, and others for a long time.

3. What should we do. Parents should first correct their mentality. Children from ordinary families in small places stay in big cities by studying and become middle-class urban residents.

More worthy of gratitude than the college entrance examination is the reform and opening up. This is a gift of the era’s dividends to a generation, don’t take it for granted.

Don’t think that children must do better than themselves. It is never a historical inevitability that one generation becomes stronger than another.

It is rare in human history to change the fate of a family and achieve a leap in social class through the efforts of just one generation.

In the future, there is a high probability that it will not happen again. Take a few more steps. 1. Exercise children’s social adaptability.

In a constantly contentious social environment, how to be a physically and mentally healthy person, how to protect oneself, and how to avoid being influenced by negative emotions and malice around us.

This is something more important than language, math, and English proficiency training. This summer, several friends around me unanimously agreed that they did not enroll their children in main courses for tutoring, but instead trained them in various sports skills, wilderness survival, and independent living abilities.

2. Exercise children’s economic adaptability. In such a big environment, let children know what era they grew up in and understand early on that in addition to intelligence and emotional intelligence, they should also possess financial intelligence.

No matter what social situation or profession he will be in in the future, he may not participate in the current financial tricks, but it is important to know.

My training for my child is that he needs to use his New Year’s money to go to the financial market and earn pocket money through earnings.

3. Exercise children’s ability to adapt to social governance. Do not expand here. Tell the child to be an ordinary person with inner freedom and practice a small craft well.

4. In addition to knowledge, train children’s perceptual and independent thinking abilities. In an era of information overload, garbage and brainwashing everywhere, give him common sense and build his cognition.

If you have carefully studied the textbook and accompanied your child through various exercises, you should understand that there is not much that truly needs to be learned by children.

Most of it is useless physical labor. Many of them, even getting stuck in dead ends as they learn, have been silly and cute all their lives.

It’s great to be able to take the 985 and 211 exams, but it’s not a big deal if you can’t. In an aging society, the most scarce labor force.

Harvesting a physically and mentally healthy child is much better than harvesting a narrow-minded and indifferent academic genius.

4. The education and arrangement of children is like dating, where each person has their own personality and style.

There is no standard answer. However, the trend is the same and common sense is shared. In the future, it is not an era of competing for knowledge.

It’s about seeking knowledge and understanding. Being bound by standard answers, whether adults or children, the world they see will become increasingly narrow.

The perception of the world will also become increasingly weak. A person, a family, or even a country that is limited by narrow and low-level cognition for a long time is the decline of civilization and wealth.
