I’ve been scrolling for a week trying to find another site like Classroom6x and I’m tired
It’s 12:17 pm, I’m halfway through my lunch break at my desk, the turkey sandwich I brought is half eaten, and I’ve already responded to the two urgent work emails that popped up. My next meeting isn’t for another 24 minutes, which isn’t enough time to start on the big report I’m supposed to finish by Friday, but it’s too long to just sit here staring at the water cooler out my window. I used to go to Classroom6x for this exact gap. Now I’m just scrolling through Google results, squinting at domain names that all look like they’re one click away from giving my work laptop malware.
I first found Classroom6x back in January, when my 7 year old had norovirus and I was working from the guest room to avoid catching it before our family ski trip. I had a 25 minute gap between a team check-in and a client call, and I was bored out of my mind refreshing work Slack, so I went on Reddit and asked for unblocked game sites that work on networks that block literally everything—even the weird little solitaire site that used to be my go-to. That’s how Classroom6x came up. I played three rounds of Tetris in that gap, and I was hooked. It wasn’t fancy, right? It had a plain white background, little text links to every game you could think of, a couple boring banner ads for student discounts that you could just ignore. No pop ups covering every button, no 30 second ads before a game loads, no asking you to turn on notifications just to play. It was just… there. For when your brain is too fried to do anything productive, but you don’t want to doomscroll Instagram and leave your break more stressed than you started it.
It stopped loading for me three weeks ago. I refreshed three times, cleared my cache, tried incognito, even tried it on my personal hotspot instead of the work wifi. Nothing. Just a generic timeout error. So I started looking for alternatives. The first mistake I made was clicking one of those list posts that pop up when you search “sites like Classroom6x”. The first site I clicked on had so many pop ups that my 5 year old work laptop froze completely and started making that loud beeping noise it does when it’s overloaded. My desk neighbor, who’s the manager of our department, turned to look at me, and I fumbled around clicking the X on every tab as fast as I could. One of the pop ups was for a local sugar daddy dating site, of all things. I just mumbled “stupid work link has malware” and prayed he didn’t get a good look at the screen. I still want to hide under my desk when I think about it.
Most of the sites I’ve found are just terrible. One had every single game link covered with a transparent ad that opens a new tab for a crypto scam before you even actually click the game. I tried to play 2048 on that one and I ended up with five new tabs open before I even got to the game screen. Another one looked fine at first, I accidentally clicked “allow” on the notification prompt before I could stop it, and now I get six push notifications a day for weight loss pills and fake free iPhones. I can’t figure out how to turn them off, either. I asked the 20 year old intern on our team, he’s always messing around on game sites during lunch, and he sent me one that’s actually okay, sort of. The problem is, half the games I liked on Classroom6x are gone, or they’re weird modified versions with so many ads you can’t even see the game board. I tried to play Slope the other day, and there was a full screen ad that I had to wait 15 seconds to close, just to play a 2 minute game. What’s the point of that?
I know this sounds silly, right? I don’t even play that much. Most days I only play one or two games, total, just to kill 10 minutes. I could just scroll TikTok, or read my book, or take a walk around the office parking lot. But walks make my feet hurt after standing in back-to-back meetings all morning, I brought my book with me this week and I keep forgetting to actually open it during lunch, and TikTok just makes me angry these days with all the political takes and people bragging about promotions I’ll never get at this company. A 2 minute game where all you have to do is tilt a ball down a slope doesn’t ask anything of you. It doesn’t want you to comment, or share, or buy anything. It’s just… quiet. That’s what I liked about Classroom6x. It was just a quiet little corner of the internet for people who need 10 minutes off from being an adult.
I posted on a casual games subreddit the other day asking for recommendations, and some guy replied “just stop procrastinating and get a life lol”. Okay, buddy. I work 40 hours a week, I pay my taxes, I take my kid to soccer practice every Saturday, I just want 10 minutes to play Tetris between meetings. Is that a crime?
I did find one site that’s close, I think. It’s got most of the games, the ads aren’t completely in the way. It’s not the same, though. The layout is all weird, and half the links open in new tabs when I don’t want them to. I still check the old Classroom6x URL every couple of days, just in case it comes back. I know that’s stupid. It’s probably just a kid who ran the site out of his bedroom and forgot to renew the domain, or he got busy with college and doesn’t have time to maintain it anymore. I don’t even know who ran it. But I still check.
Yesterday I wasted my whole lunch break scrolling through new sites instead of actually playing a game, which is kind of the funniest part. I spent the break I was trying to have just looking for a place to take the break. I guess I’ll keep looking. If you know one that’s actually good, hit me up. I’ll be here, half eating my sandwich, waiting for my next meeting.
